Siblings Featured on CBS News Radio: Why the Green Premium Shouldn’t Come with a Penalty
This Earth Day, something exciting happened: Siblings was featured on CBS News Radio, with co-founder David Bronkie sharing our story in a segment that aired across 600 stations nationwide. That means listeners from coast to coast heard about our mission, our candles, and the real challenges sustainable businesses are facing right now.
It was a huge honor to be part of a national conversation on such an important day. Of course for us, sustainability isn’t just an Earth Day headline. It’s our everyday practice.
The Hidden Cost of Sustainability
In the interview, David spoke candidly about the “green premium” -- or the extra cost we absorb to use safer, more sustainable materials. From compostable packaging to our non-toxic wax blends and our beautiful, reusable vessels sourced from Portugal, every decision we make puts the planet first. But those decisions come at a price.
And now, we’re facing a new challenge: tariffs. A recently proposed 20% tariff on imported goods from Europe could raise our costs, especially on materials like our signature vessels. For us, and so many other small, mission-driven brands, that’s a hit we will try not to pass on to our customers. But it makes an already uphill climb that much steeper.
A Voice for Eco-Conscious Brands
We’re incredibly proud that David got to speak not just for Siblings, but for all the small businesses navigating the trade-offs of sustainability. We believe that choosing the greener path shouldn’t be punished by outdated policies or added taxes.
We’re also proud that CBS News Radio chose to amplify this story—because it shows that sustainability and advocacy matter. We’ll keep speaking up, not just on Earth Day, but every day.
